So what came first the chicken or the egg? This question has baffled scientist for years and relates to poker when considering the popularity of it. On the land-based poker tournaments page, I talked about the popularity of this wonderful game we know and love. What I mean by “relates” is, what made poker so popular today? I strongly believe it is and was the online community that brought poker to the level it is at today and where it will be tomorrow.
Online poker really started to take off just in the last couple of years, say the turn of the century. There are several huge, I mean huge, online communities that play poker all day. All of these places have unbelievable software packages available for you to download in order to immerse your self in poker bliss.
The nice thing about the online community is that you have dozens of people always wanting to play, so you are not at the mercy of the casino setting up the tournament. Besides that, you can do it on your own time, or almost on your own time. There are several tournaments scheduled throughout the day, in all types of play that you can be involved in. As well as the diversity of what game you are playing, you can also choose what stakes you are going to play for. Tables range from as low as five cents for the small blind and ten cents for large blind all the way up to two hundred for a small blind and four hundred for large blind. Now you might find larger blinds out there, but those are the ones I come across on a more regular basis.
There is a larger range of types of poker you can play in the online world. This is because the land based casinos cannot give up the floor space for the lesser attractive tournaments, such as razz that you can play online.
The poker software that is available online is incredible. I mentioned above that there are several key players in this fight for market share, but with the popularity of today’s game, there is plenty to go around. Something you want to keep in mind when you are going to venture into the online world is that your style and play should be and will be different.
